The Huskers started their season 7-0 and had a two-game edge in the Big Ten West before finishing 2-3 and behind Wisconsin. The Vols started 5-0 and had total command of the SEC East after beating Florida and Georgia, but a three-game losing streak in the middle of October doomed their season. Losing to Vanderbilt later on didn’t help things.

Tennessee has an easy weekend trip to Nashville as the unofficial host of this year’s Music City Bowl. Nebraska started the season 7-0 and, like Tennessee, had its sights set on conference title contention only to fall short. Both teams finished the regular season with bad division losses — Tennessee to Vandy and Nebraska to Iowa — and are looking to get one back in the postseason to get some juice heading into work ahead for 2017.

The Cornhuskers are in search of their first 10-win season since 2012 and the 29th in the program’s 117-year history.Armstrong threw for 2,180 yards, 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions for Nebraska this season and was the team’s second-leading rusher with 512 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns.

Two of Nebraska’s three losses have come against ranked teams this season; the Cornhuskers are 1-2 against Top-25 teams this season.Nebraska has never played in the Music City Bowl in the previous 18 years of its existence; Tennessee lost 30-27 to North Carolina in the 2010 Music City Bowl in its only previous trip.The Volunteers are in search of their second straight nine-win season and a third straight bowl win.Tennessee has won three of its last four games but did cap the season with a loss to Vanderbilt, which finished just 6-6 and 3-5 in SEC play.
